KIA Tigers left-hander Lee “Young-gun” Lee was removed from the game after failing to complete five innings.
Lee started the second game of a doubleheader against the LG Twins of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KIA Champions Field in Gwangju on Monday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. It was the second straight start in which he failed to complete five innings.
Lee got off to a shaky start, drawing two walks in the top of the first to put runners on first and third and giving up the first run on a single to right to pinch-hitter Austin Dean. After Moon Bo-kyung singled to load the bases, Oh Ji-hwan got a grounder to first base to get the runners out, but Kim Hyun-soo scored from third base to extend the lead.
Lee Yi-ri scored in the top of the second inning. Kim Ki-yeon and Jeong Ju-hyun singled and Hong Chang-ki walked to load the bases, and Moon Sung-joo grounded out to score Kim Ki-yeon. With runners on first and second, Kim caught Kim Hyun-soo’s grounder and threw it to second base, where Song Gu slipped behind the shortstop, allowing Hong Chang-ki to run home from third base.
Lee settled down in the top of the third inning. They retired the next three batters, Oh Ji-hwan, Kim Min-sung, and Kim Ki-yeon, in order with 10 pitches, and in the top of the fourth, Jung Ju-hyun singled to drive in Hong Chang-ki. In the second, Moon Sung-joo grounded out to first base to end the inning easily.
However, in the top of the fifth inning, trouble brewed. Lee felt unwell after striking out the leadoff batter, Kim Hyun-soo, and the trainer and pitching coach Seo Jae-heng rushed out to check on him. Soon after, the dugout signaled for a substitution, and Lee was done for the day 바카라.
It wasn’t a major injury. “Lee was substituted because of a callus on his left middle finger,” a KIA team official explained.
