Mainz 05’s Lee Jae-sung (31) denied Dortmund the title with an assist in German professional soccer.

Lee Jae-Sung assisted on the goal that gave Mainz a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute against Dortmund in the final 34th round of the 2022-23 Bundesliga at Sigmund-Iduna Park in Westphalia, Germany, on Monday (Aug. 28). Lee Jae-Sung’s cross from the left flank was headed in by Karim Onisewo.

Rafael Guerreiro pulled one back in the 24th minute and Niklas Zuerle equalized six minutes into stoppage time, but Dortmund had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Dortmund could have won the title on their own if they had won the day, but Lee Jae-Sung was the difference. 안전놀이터

At the same time, Bayern Munich, who were in a title race with Dortmund, scored a dramatic 2-1 win away to Cologne. Dortmund (22W5D7L) tied Bayern Munich (21W8D5L) with 71 points, but finished second due to goal differential (Dortmund +39, Munich +54). Munich has won the Bundesliga title in 11 consecutive seasons since 2012.

Trailing Dortmund by two points heading into the final match, Munich had to win the day and hope that Dortmund would draw or lose. Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but the Bavarians equalized in the 36th minute through Dejan Lubic. The Bavarians scored a dramatic winner in the 44th minute through Jamal Musalla.

Dortmund, meanwhile, suffered another setback in their quest to win the title for the first time in 11 years after the 2011-12 season. Dortmund ‘legend’ Marco Reus and Jude Bellingham, who is likely to leave the club, finished as runners-up.

Lee Jae-sung started the final and played 66 minutes. Lee had a successful season with seven goals and four assists this season. Mainz finished the season in ninth place (12 W, 10 D, 12 L, 46 pts).
