Nick Nurse, who has ties to president Daryl Morey, has agreed to become the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the team will name Nurse as Doc Rivers’ successor on Tuesday morning.

The hiring of Nurse is a major coup for Philadelphia, which hasn’t reached the conference finals since the Allen Iverson era in 2001.

Prior to his first head coaching job with the Toronto Raptors, Nurse spent 11 seasons as a head coach in the British League. Upon returning to the United States, Nurse joined the Houston Rockets’ G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he developed a relationship with Mori.

From there, Nurse was an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors from 2013 until Dwane Casey was fired in 2018. He was promoted to head coach and led Toronto to its first championship in franchise history with Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry. He stayed on as head coach until this season, when he was released after being eliminated from the playoffs.

Along with Mike Budenholzer, the Nuggets head coach was on the short list for the Philadelphia and Phoenix Suns head coaching jobs. However, Philadelphia reached out to Nurse’s agent and presented him with a vision of Philadelphia’s future centered around Embiid. The Phillies quickly agreed to terms with Nurse.

This reunited Nurse with president Daryl Morey and gave him the opportunity to work with the man who had broken them down and won them games in the postseason 메이저사이트.

Meanwhile, Nurse will be a defensive specialist.

He’s known for his ability to utilize players at the big man position. This could be a good fit for him, but it could also be a handshake for Embiid, who needs constant attention.

It will be interesting to see if the Nuggets coach can be the fireman to solve Philadelphia’s problems.
