Daejeon Baseball Dream Park, a long-cherished project of Daejeon local residents and baseball fans, held a groundbreaking ceremony and started full-scale construction.
On the 22nd, Daejeon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for ‘Sports Complex’ Baseball Dream Park at the site where the baseball field was planned to be built in the Hanbat Stadium in Busa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said, “Baseball Dream Park is built as a baseball stadium with a new concept that is different from other existing baseball stadiums and is used for various purposes such as performance halls and exhibition halls. It will be born as a national landmark,” he said.
Baseball Dream Park is built on two floors below ground and four floors above ground, with a total floor area of 58,594㎡. It is scheduled to open in March 2025 with a total project cost of 161.7 billion won.
Daejeon City said, “We have analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of various domestic and foreign baseball fields and reflected them in the design.”
The first basement floor is for management and support facilities, the second basement floor is for locker rooms, indoor practice rooms, coaches’ rooms, and player cafeterias, and the first to fourth floors are for spectator seats and auxiliary facilities.
On the first floor, there will be spectator seats, sales facilities, a ticket office, camera room, archives hall (club history hall), and a resting room.
There will be a skybox on the 3rd floor and a family leisure center with an infinity pool, surfing zone and caravan zone on the 4th floor.
In particular, the ‘double floor bullpen’ that separates the away team from the home team stands out. It is a structure that allows baseball fans who visit the stadium to see the bullpen situation of both teams at a glance. It is the first Asian baseball stadium to be introduced. In addition, the display board was placed on the opposite side of the home team’s seats on the first base side instead of in the center of the outfield, giving maximum consideration to the home team’s spectators’ convenience.
Baseball Dream Park is the first domestic stadium to have an asymmetrical ground with different distances from home to outfield poles. It is designed to be 99m to the left pole and 95m to the right pole. The height of the outfield fence also varies. At the right fence, Asia’s first 8m high monster wall is installed to create various game situations. The other side is installed at a height of 2.4m to catch home run balls.
Prior to the groundbreaking ceremony, Hanwha Eagles supported programs such as fansigns and cheerleading events before the ceremony, as well as photo time for legends. Ten players, including captain Woo-ram Jeong, Eun-seong Chae, and Si-hwan Noh, held a fan signing event for Daejeon citizens who visited the event that day.
